ResiPlank RigidCore 8.5mm vs 9.7mm — What Is the Difference?
Thickness and underfoot feel
The 8.5mm board has a 0.5mm wear layer and a plank size of 1420×225mm, making it a practical choice for standard residential rooms where budget is a consideration. The 9.7mm board steps up to a 0.7mm wear layer and a larger 1820×225mm plank, which adds both extra durability and a more expansive floor appearance. The thicker wear layer on the 9.7mm is the main long-term performance difference — it takes longer to wear through in high-traffic areas and is better suited to homes with pets or young children.
Where can ResiPlank be used?
Both thicknesses are 100% waterproof at the plank level, which means they are suitable for wet area use including bathrooms and laundries. The rigid SPC core does not expand or contract with temperature changes the way traditional timber flooring does, making it more stable in rooms with large temperature swings such as sunrooms or areas with underfloor heating. Check the individual product specification for maximum subfloor temperature requirements before installing over a heated slab.
Colour range
The 30 colours span Australian timber species like Blackbutt, Spotted Gum and Greyed timbers, through to neutral greys including Pewter, Anchor Grey and Iron Grey, and warmer tones like Driftwood, Tuscan and Sepia. Both thickness ranges share several matching colourways, making it straightforward to use different thicknesses in different rooms while keeping a consistent look.
